Almond Milk Sweet Yam Pie — Fresh Farm-to-Table Dessert

Almond Milk Sweet Yam Pie — Fresh Farm-to-Table Dessert

Almond Milk Sweet Yam Pie — Fresh From the African Gourmet Food Forest

Here at the African Gourmet food forest, as a proud yam farmer I’ve spent my life growing and harvesting the finest yams straight from God’s good earth.

It’s a special treat cooking with fresh yams — they are sweeter, richer, and carry the essence of the soil and sun. Unlike canned yams, which come packed in syrup and lose their naturalness during processing, fresh yams retain their vibrant, wholesome flavor, nutrients, and velvety texture.

When you use fresh yams in recipes like this Almond Milk Sweet Yam Pie, you experience a naturally sweet dessert made with wholesome, nutrient-rich ingredients. Every bite celebrates the farm-to-table connection — from golden fields to your kitchen.

Fresh yams are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them not only delicious but also nourishing. Using almond milk keeps the pie creamy yet lighter than whole milk. For a richer version, you can swap almond milk for 1/2 cup whole milk instead of 1/3 cup almond milk.

Almond Milk Sweet Yam Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups mashed yams
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup almond milk (or 1/2 cup whole milk for extra richness)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell

Directions

  1. While the yams are still warm, mash and mix with sugars, butter, and almond milk. Blend until smooth.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, then add to the yam mixture and blend well.
  3. Stir in vanilla, orange blossom water, baking powder, spices, and nuts (if using).
  4. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie shell.
  5. Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 325°F and bake for another 35 minutes until set.

Serve warm or at room temperature. Each slice delivers natural sweetness, silky texture, and a comforting connection to African farming traditions.
