Africa’s smallest mountain

Egypt is home to the smallest mountain in Africa Mount Horeb. 

Africa's smallest mountain is Mount Horeb, also known as Jebel Horeb located in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

Mount Horeb stands at only 2285 feet (696 meters) above sea level. Mount Horeb is also significant in religious history as it is believed to be the location where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God according to many religions.

Mount Horeb is a mountain range located in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. It is the site where, according to the Bible, Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. 

The mountain range is also known as the "Mountain of God" or the "Mountain of Moses" and is considered a sacred site by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. 

Mount Horeb is home to several notable peaks, including Jebel Musa (Mount Sinai), which stands at 7,497 feet (2,285 meters) above sea level. 

The region surrounding Mount Horeb is arid and rocky, with few plant and animal species able to survive in the harsh conditions. 

The mountain range has played a significant role in the history of the region and has been a site of pilgrimage for centuries. Today, visitors can hike to the summit of Jebel Musa and take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. 

According to the Bible, when Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mount Horeb, the mountain was enveloped in a thick cloud, and the top of the mountain was covered in smoke and flames. 

Mount Horeb is located near the city of Saint Catherine, which is home to the famous Saint Catherine's Monastery, one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world

Mount Kilimanjaro: Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters above sea level. It is a dormant volcano and a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. 

Atlas Mountains: Stretching across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, the Atlas Mountains are a range of rugged peaks that reach heights of up to 4,167 meters. They are known for their stunning landscapes, including deep gorges and verdant valleys. 

Rwenzori Mountains: Located on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Rwenzori Mountains are a range of snow-capped peaks that are also known as the "Mountains of the Moon." The highest peak, Margherita Peak, reaches a height of 5,109 meters. 

Drakensberg Mountains: Located in South Africa, the Drakensberg Mountains are a range of high peaks and deep valleys that are known for their stunning scenery and unique rock formations. The highest peak, Thabana Ntlenyana, stands at 3,482 meters. 

Mount Kenya: Located in central Kenya, Mount Kenya is the second-highest peak in Africa, standing at 5,199 meters. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular destination for hiking and climbing.

Egypt's Sinai Peninsula is home to several other interesting  mountain ranges. Here are some of the most well known mountain ranges in the Sinai Peninsula.

Mount Sinai Range: Located in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, the Mount Sinai Range is home to some of the highest peaks in Egypt, including Mount Sinai (Jebel Musa), which stands at 7,497 feet (2,285 meters) above sea level. This range is famous for its religious significance, as it is believed to be the site where Moses received the Ten Commandments. 

Serabit El Khadem Range: Located in the central part of the Sinai Peninsula, the Serabit El Khadem Range is known for its rugged peaks and deep valleys. This range is also home to the ancient Serabit El Khadem Temple, which was once a major center of worship for the ancient Egyptians. 

El Tih Plateau: Located in the north-central part of the Sinai Peninsula, the El Tih Plateau is a vast desert region that is home to several notable peaks, including Mount Catherine (Jebel Katherina), which stands at 8,625 feet (2,629 meters) above sea level. This range is also home to several Bedouin tribes who have lived in the region for centuries. 

Eastern Desert Range: Located in the eastern part of the Sinai Peninsula, the Eastern Desert Range is a vast desert region that is home to several notable peaks, including Mount Malik (Jebel Malik), which stands at 2,804 feet (855 meters) above sea level.

The Sinai Peninsula is a triangular-shaped peninsula located in northeastern Egypt. It is situated between the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the south. 

The Sinai Peninsula is bordered by Israel to the east and northeast, and by the Suez Canal to the west. It is approximately 60,000 square kilometers (23,000 square miles) in size and is mostly desert, with mountain ranges and oases. 

The Sinai Peninsula is a strategically important region and has been the site of several conflicts over the years, including the Israeli-Egyptian conflict and the Gulf War.

Madagascar is the 4th large island in the world and is located in the Indian Ocean supporting a unique biology, about 90% of its plants and animals are found nowhere else on earth.

Composed of 155 islands, Seychelles is Africa's smallest country. By far the largest island is Mahe, home to about 90% of the population and the site of its capital city of Victoria.

Cabo Verde has a strategic location 310 miles or 500 km from the west coast of Africa near major north-south sea routes; important communications station; important sea and air refueling site.

Africa is surrounded by water but by definition Africa is not an island because Africa is a continent. Continents can not be considered islands because of their size and also by historic definition since many people who study geography define islands and continents as two different things.
